I have recently become a fan of Paul Noth‘s work. You can see his cartoons in the New Yorker. He has a great sense of humor and he seems to work in a range of styles. In some cartoons he employs a series of simple elegant lines actualizing the scene in as few strokes as possible, in others he uses layered ink washes to bring in a realistic depth, and in others he will go crazy with incredibly descriptive hatching and cross hatching.
He says that one of his favorite kind of cartoons to do is the caption-less or totally non-verbal cartoon. I too love to make these cartoons when I am feeling brilliant enough. The creation of a successful caption-less cartoon is a noteworthy achievement in my opinion.
He is a modern inspiration!
Well that is all I have to say for now. Below are a few more of Paul Noth’s wonderful cartoons
